Sometimes, I forget to thank the people who make my life so happy in so many ways. Sometimes, I forget to tell them how much I really do appreciate them for being an important part of my life. Today is just another day, nothing special going on. So thank you, all of you, just for being here for me!

Key ideas of Peter Drucker
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Drucker
Several ideas run through most of Drucker's writings:
Decentralization and simplification. Drucker discounted the command and control model and asserted that companies work best when they are decentralized. According to Drucker, corporations tend to produce too many products, hire employees they don't need (when a better solution would be outsourcing), and expand into economic sectors that they should avoid.
The concept of "Knowledge Worker" in his 1959 book "The Landmarks of Tomorrow". Since then, knowledge based work has become increasingly important in Businesses all around the world.
The prediction of the death of the "Blue Collar" worker.
A Blue Collar worker''
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Peter_Drucker&action=edit§ion=10 is a typical high school dropout who was paid middle class wages with all benefits for assembling cars in Detroit. The changing face of the US Auto Industry is a testimony to this prediction.
The concept of what eventually came to be known as "Outsourcing". He used the example of front room and a back room of each Business. A Business should be engaged in only the front room activities, that is their core activities to support their Business. Back room activities should be handed over to other Businesses, for whom these are the front room activities.
The importance of the non profit sector, which he calls the third sector (private sector and the Government sector being the first two). The Non Government Organizations like charities which play a crucial role in countries across the world.
A profound skepticism of macroeconomic theory. Drucker contended that economists of all schools fail to explain significant aspects of modern economies.
Respect of the worker. Drucker believed that employees are assets and not liabilities. He thought that knowledgeable workers are the essential ingredients of the modern economy. Central to this philosophy is the view that people are an organization's most valuable resource and that a manager's job is to prepare and free people to perform.
A belief in what he called "the sickness of government." Drucker made nonpartisan claims that government is often unable or unwilling to provide new services that people need or want, though he believed that this condition is not inherent to the form of government. The chapter "The Sickness of Government" in his book The Age of Discontinuity formed the basis of the New Public Management, a theory of public administration that dominated the discipline in the 1980s and 1990s.
The need for "planned abandonment". Businesses and governments have a natural human tendency to cling to "yesterday's successes" rather than seeing when they are no longer useful.
A belief that taking action without thinking is the cause of every failure.
The need for community. Early in his career, Drucker predicted the "end of economic man" and advocated the creation of a "plant community" where individuals' social needs could be met. He later acknowledged that the plant community never materialized, and by the 1980s, suggested that volunteering in the nonprofit sector was the key to fostering a healthy society where people found a sense of belonging and civic pride.
The need to manage business by balancing a variety of needs and goals, rather than subordinating an institution to a single value. This concept of management by objectives forms the keynote of his 1954 landmark The Practice of Management.
A company's primary responsibility is to serve its customers. Profit is not the primary goal, but rather an essential condition for the company's continued existence.
An organization should have a proper way of executing all its business processes.
A belief in the notion that great companies could stand among humankind's noblest inventions

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com Review
Frances Hesselbein's views on leadership have attracted fans since the one-time Johnstown, Pennsylvania, troop leader became CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA in 1976 and turned that venerable but struggling organization around. Now in Hesselbein on Leadership the current chairman and founding president of the Drucker Foundation has compiled 19 essays that lay out the philosophy she honed during those experiences and in years since--a philosophy that today draws more admirers than ever, such as Jim Collins, who wrote the book's foreword. In a disarmingly simple manner, Hesselbein offers her underlying definition of the topic at hand ("leadership is a matter of how to be, not how to do it") and spells out nuances and specifics that those atop any private, public or nonprofit organization would do well to absorb. Throughout the book she shows how character determines performance, how a willingness to innovate and a desire to make a difference regularly bring results, and how the best leaders actually turn a vision into the spark needed to ignite their enterprise. There is plenty of pragmatic advice here amidst the theoretical, and in light of Hesselbein's wealth of provocative yet practical insights, the only complaint may be that this collection is a little on the slim side. --Howard Rothman
From Publishers Weekly
Frances Hesselbein was once a volunteer troop leader, made her way up to CEO of the Girl Scouts of America and is now the chairman of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management. She obviously knows the intricacies of leadership, and in Hesselbein on Leadership, she shares specific leadership principles and her thoughts on innovation, change, diversity and being a female leader. The slim volume dishes out valuable tidbits of advice, such as "regularly acknowledge the contributions of those within and outside the organization" and "create organizations in which people know that it's their job... to care about the results."

Xenophon: Anabasis, or March Up Country
http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/ancient/xenophon-anabasis.asp
Xenophon the Athenian was born 431 B.C. He was a pupil of Socrates. He marched with the Spartans, and was exiled from Athens. Sparta gave him land and property in Scillus, where he lived for many years before having to move once more, to settle in Corinth. He died in 354 B.C.
The Anabasis is his story of the march to Persia to aid Cyrus, who enlisted Greek help to try and take the throne from Artaxerxes, and the ensuing return of the Greeks, in which Xenophon played a leading role. This occurred between 401 B.C. and March 399 B.C.

Out for lunch,
the weather seemed not so bad,
but it was very quiet,

Coffee
This afternoon,
in the office,
A recommends one kind of Vietnam coffee to L,
it is a small pack of instant coffee mate,
but the smell is so good,
even though I don't drink coffee,
I instantly think of the idea to buy several packs,
to put into my toilet,
as I read articles that coffee can cover the bad smell in the toilet.
At the same time,
my colleague L says that it is not a good idea.
He says this idea is not good for the coffee lover,
as when one smells that good coffee,
especially in a nice restaurant,
it will remind him/her the smell of the coffee in the toilet,
and definitely will destroy the appetite!
The answer is - I don't drink coffee.
Don't know the outcome yet!

Song -

What Lipstick Tells Us About the Economyhttp://curiouscapitalist.blogs.time.com/2011/09/14/what-lipstick-tells-us-about-the-economy/

Allison Joyce / Reuters
Designer coats and crystal glasses can be hard sells in a tough economy. But lipstick is another story. At least that's the thinking behind the "lipstick index," termed by Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of cosmetics company Estée Lauder, in 2001 to explain the surge in lipstick sales during that recession.
Lately, the lipstick theory hasn't been holding up. Lipstick sales – on the decline since 2007 – continued to fall in 2010, according to the latest data on the product released by market research firm Mintel. That throws lipstick out the window in the hunt for measures of recessionary spending in the Great Recession. I caught up with Lauder today to ask him what gives with the bomb in lipstick sales and whether that upends his theory.
Lauder's response? Nail polish is the new lipstick. And lipstick wasn't really the point. "We have long observed the concept of small luxuries, things that can get you through hard times and good ones. And they become more important during harder times. The biggest surge in movie attendance came during the 1930s during the Depression," says Lauder. That trend is similar to the uptick in lipstick sales during the 2001 recession and other colorful cosmetics like nail polish in this one.
Sales of nail-enhancing goodies like nail polish are up 65% since the first half of 2008, according to market research firm NPD Group. The shift, Lauder surmises, has to do with the glut of lipsticks in women's boudoirs and the pick-me-up associated with donning color. "The idea of a brand new lipstick shade used to excite everyone. Today people have so many, they don't want to try a new one." Women, he says, would rather "shop their closets" for what they already have rather than buying more of the same.
Nail polish is another affordable pick-me-up, but it now offers all kinds of crazy new shades to inspire the recession-prone splurge. "I picked up this signal from my grand daughters. All of a sudden there was nail enamel in these strange colors. That's the way the world is going: Notice me."

Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington and the Education of a President
http://www.amazon.com/Confidence-Men-Washington-Education-ebook/dp/B004OVEZ8O
The hidden history of Wall Street and the White House comes down to a single, powerful, quintessentially American concept: confidence. Both centers of power, tapping brazen innovations over the past three decades, learned how to manufacture it.
Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Ron Suskind introduces readers to an ensemble cast, from the titans of high finance to a new generation of reformers, from petulant congressmen and acerbic lobbyists to a tight circle of White House advisers—and, ultimately, to the president himself, as you’ve never before seen him. Based on hundreds of interviews and filled with piercing insights and startling disclosures, Confidence Men brings into focus the collusion and conflict between the nation’s two capitals—New York and Washington, one of private gain, the other of public purpose—in defining confidence and, thereby, charting America’s future.

Song -

Song -

Der Freischütz Opera in 3 Acts by Carl Maria von Weber
The 25th MIMF closes with one of the great milestones in the history of opera: Der Freischütz. The resounding success of the 1821 premiere of Carl Maria von Weber’s masterwork practically guaranteed its status as a manifesto for German Romantic opera, one that would become a significant formative influence on Richard Wagner.
The story of a forest gamekeeper who makes a deal with the dark side to win a shooting contest and the hand of his beloved, Der Freischütz broke new ground with its potent mixture of supernatural elements, dreams, folk melodies, evocations of nature and symphonic tone painting.
With its beloved overture, “Huntsmen’s Chorus” and the famously eerie Wolf’s Glen scene, Der Freischütz is an unforgettable piece of musical theatre and an operatic event not to be missed!

My grandaunt
I don't exactly know her full name, but since when I was a kid,
I knew there was a grandaunt who usually visited us once every year,
usually after the seventh day of the Chinese New Year,
as she said she needed to work for her boss' family during the busy festival.
I usually longed for her visiting,
as we only met once a year,
plus she was very nice to me,
and she always bought me nice presents.
By the time I grew up,
my parents told me her story,
and I felt very bad because her money spending for my presents was not easy money.
She was the wife of my sixth grand uncle,
She married with my grand uncle whom I never met,
because he died young.
She was an elegant and tidy lady,
short hair, soft voice, medium height,
she should had come from an educated family.
They didn't have any children,
and for a lady without a husband,
her life was very tough in the old days.
She was lucky that she got a housework job with a medical doctor's family,
she stayed-in the house and worked wholeheartedly with the family.
She seldom had holidays,
and by that time,
we seldom chatted over the phone either.
She saw me growing up,
and I saw her getting old,
years by years,
I got taller and she got shorter.
She still worked with the medical doctor's family,
by the time I finished my high school.
I know her work was more than a job,
as they treated her as family member.
I miss the time chatting with her when she visited us,
sharing with the news with each other.
However,
the bad news came when I was in my sophmore year,
she got sick and not long,
she passed away,
I even didn't get the chance to say goodbye to her.
Nevertheless,
her beautiful and elegant posture is still always in my mind,
and her teaching to me is very valuable.

her life was very tough in the old days.

Remarks by the President Obama at "A Concert for Hope" 20110911
THE PRESIDENT: The Bible tells us -- “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Ten years ago, America confronted one of our darkest nights. Mighty towers crumbled. Black smoke billowed up from the Pentagon. Airplane wreckage smoldered on a Pennsylvania field. Friends and neighbors, sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters –- they were taken from us with a heartbreaking swiftness and cruelty. And on September 12, 2001, we awoke to a world in which evil was closer at hand, and uncertainty clouded our future.
In the decade since, much has changed for Americans. We’ve known war and recession, passionate debates and political divides. We can never get back the lives that were lost on that day or the Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed.

but do you know honour?
每一位員工都是優秀的,只要他得到正確的培訓;

Li Keqiang's visit
One's comments on a certain issue may represent one's interests and values. Can you identify these people's values by referring to their reactions to the following incident in question? What motivated them to act as they did?
■The incident
On August 16, Vice-Premier Li Keqiang (國務院副總理李克強) began his 3-day official visit in Hong Kong, bringing with him policies favourable to the SAR, which he regarded as a gift. Li's visit was expected to endear (使其受愛戴) him to Hong Kong citizens. During his visit, over 2,000 police officers were called out to ensure his safety.
The last day he was here, Li attended the centenary (百周年) ceremony of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He emphasised his visit was not political. Representatives of HKU students showed the Vice-Premier around and took him to some of the university's important monuments. Li also met with Prof Jao Tsung-I (國學大師饒宗頤), a scholar who has contributed much to the humanities including literature and history.
During Li's visit, unusually tight security measures were taken to keep him safe. A group of university students who demonstrated to express their views on the June 4 incident complained the protest area was too distant from the venue of the ceremony. They said it was hard for Li to notice or hear them. Three students were kept at a stairwell (樓梯間) by some police officers, who they claimed had falsely imprisoned (非法禁錮) them. HKU was criticised for giving up its autonomy (自主).

I see the angels
After Yam Cha,went to visit my aunt.
By the time I arrived the hospital,
the silent wards were full of visitors,
they are from one christian church which I also participated their activities once in a while.
From far away,
I also recognized a lady whom we went to a church trip together to the remote village few years ago.
I think they are beautiful in heart,
glad to see the angels!

BILL GATES' SPEECH TO MT. WHITNEY HIGH SCHOOL in Visalia, California.
Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this!
To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice. Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1: Life is not fair -- get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping -- they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Sisters
Received a very meaningful e-mail from a friend who is now living in Vancouver, love the content very much, and extracted the part most wonderful written:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there,
no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.
A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.

Good stories, I love this one too!
Woman and Dog
Few years ago,in the S. Paul's Ruins Square,
there was a statue called "Woman and Dog",
many people critized the posture of the woman,
as it was not nice to represent Chinese woman.
I had the same opinion,
and I didn't understand why the Portuguese artist got this impression for the art work.
For the past few weeks,
I usually spend my evening time in the nearby park.
There are usually many women with their dogs before dark in the Monte area.
I learn that from the number of dog owners I met,
it seems that women like dogs rather than men,
as only few masters are men,
The masters and the dogs sometimes sit together on the benches.
Today,
I accidentally saw one women with the similar posture of the statue,
I discovered that the impression of the artist was correct !!
It is just like a camer,
the artist captured the moment for the art work -
no matter it is good or bad,
to represent the Chinese woman.

Please don't put salt on my wound
Encountered a careless mistake few months ago,
it was not completely my fault,
but a mistake by someone else,
out of my control,
and only discovered after the meeting,
thus I needed to contact the oversea visitors telling them they had mistaken my belongings.
I needed to make a lot of effort to get back the item.
I knew very well it was not my fault,
but I also knew that I could do better to control it and avoid it happened.
I didn't feel good for long time.
Today,
S brought out this issue,
actually it was none of his business,
and he did remind me of my bad experience.
Please, please,
mind your own business,
and don't put salt on my wound!

先將麵粉、發粉及豆蔻末混合待用;

This is a true story of the Japanese Embassy in the United States.
Days ago, Prime Minister Mori received some instructions in Basic English conversation before he visits Washington and meets president Barack Obama…
The instructor told Mr. Mori: When you shake hand with President Obama, please say ‘How are you’. Then Mr. Obama should say, ‘I am fine, and you?‘. And you respond saying: ‘Me too’. Afterwards we, translators, will do the work for you. It seems very simple, but the truth is…
When Mr. Mori met Obama, he mistakenly said ‘Who are you?’ – Instead of ‘How are you?’
Initially, President Obama was a little shocked, but managed to react with humor: ‘Well, I’m Michelle’s husband, ha-ha-ha…’
Then Mr. Mori replied: ‘Me too, ha-ha-ha…’
Then there was a long silence in the meeting room…
