Plastic Beauty

1. 美唔係簡單嘅靚同醜,外表嘅改變,未必可以解決內心嘅創傷;

2. 醫學有兩面:救生命,亦都回應人嘅心理痛苦,但當商業介入,就會產生好多扭曲;

Still Walking

(Aruitemo Aruitemo)

Director:Hirokazu Kore‑eda|

English|Brief summary & review

Summary

Still Walking (2008), directed by Hirokazu Kore‑eda, follows one summer day when the Yokoyama family gathers at their old home to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the eldest son’s drowning death. The second son Ryota arrives with his remarried wife and stepson, while the elder daughter also brings her family. Across a single day and night, the film unfolds through mundane moments: meals, peeling vegetables, casual walks. Beneath quiet conversations lie unresolved grief, parental disappointment, hidden guilt and unspoken rifts. The film’s quiet truth: life always moves a little too slowly, and many reconciliations never come in time.

Review

This is Kore‑eda’s masterpiece of domestic cinema. Without dramatic outbursts or sentimental manipulation, it captures the bittersweet reality of family: love and friction coexist within the same household. The performances are natural, with Kirin Kiki’s portrayal of the mother unforgettable.

It is slow and understated; viewers seeking fast‑paced plots may find it quiet. If you appreciate subtle human stories about loss and family bonds, it is essential viewing.

Tradução literária em português europeu|Resumo e crítica breve

Título: Andando

Realizador: Hirokazu Kore‑eda, 2008

English short review

True Education is a Korean Netflix drama about the collapse of school order after corporal punishment was banned. A former special forces officer joins a special task force to tackle bullying, juvenile crime and abusive wealthy families, after his fiancée, a teacher, was killed by a teenage offender who escaped heavy punishment. It delivers sharp social reflections on the balance between teachers’ authority and student protection. While full of thrilling action, the series questions whether rough, boundary‑crossing justice can truly fix deep‑rooted educational problems. Recommended for viewers interested in Korean social dramas, though its core premise is fictional and not a blueprint for real‑world education.

導演:Emilio Estevez(艾美利奧·艾斯提維斯)|2010|主演:Martin Sheen(馬田·辛)

• 荷蘭人約斯特,希望藉行路減磅,尋回生活嘅喜悅;

• 加拿大女子莎拉,嘗試擺脫過往創傷、戒掉煙癮;

“You do not choose a life. You live one.”

Elegant English Review

The Way (2010), directed by Emilio Estevez

The Way is not a film about religion. It is a quiet, luminous parable about grief, and about the slow, unglamorous labour of learning to live again.

Tom, an American ophthalmologist, receives the news that his estranged son Daniel has died in a storm on the Camino de Santiago, only days into his pilgrimage. Travelling to France to retrieve the body, Tom makes an impulsive decision: he will shoulder his son's pack, scatter his ashes along the route, and walk the eight hundred kilometres himself.

What follows is neither a grand adventure nor a sentimental fable. The camino offers no miracles. It offers blisters, rain, cheap hostels and the company of strangers — a Dutchman seeking joy, a Canadian woman fleeing pain, an Irish writer paralysed by writer's block. Together they walk, and slowly, almost imperceptibly, each begins to shed the armour worn for years.

The film's wisdom lies in its restraint. Transformation does not arrive through a single dramatic revelation. It accumulates in the ordinary: the discipline of one more step, the kindness of a shared meal, the long silence of a road that forces you to meet yourself. When Tom finally reaches Santiago, there is no neat catharsis — only the recognition that the journey has changed him, and that the road, once begun, need not end where the map says it should.

"You do not choose a life. You live one."

Beautifully photographed and tenderly acted, The Way reminds us that pilgrimage is not about arriving at a holy city. It is about becoming, however slowly, someone slightly more awake to the world — and to oneself.

You do not choose a life. You live one.

Não se escolhe uma vida. Vive‑se uma vida.

The point of pilgrimage is never the arrival, but the slow becoming that happens along the way.

Walking does not erase pain. It teaches you to see it with different eyes.

Sometimes the longest journey is not the one beneath your feet, but the one within.

The kindness of strangers is the most precious relic on the pilgrim's road.

Brief Movie Review: My Salinger Year (with integrated quotes)

My Salinger Year is a quiet, literary independent drama set in 1990s New York, adapted from a true memoir. It follows Joanna, a young aspiring writer who lands an assistant job at a prestigious literary agency, tasked with handling the enormous volume of fan mail for the reclusive author J.D. Salinger. The film unfolds at a gentle, unhurried pace, exploring youth ambition, creative identity, and the quiet magic of old‑world publishing culture.

Joanna opens the film with a bold dream: “I wanted to write novels and speak five languages and travel. I didn’t want to be ordinary. I wanted to be extraordinary.” Her strict yet perceptive boss Margaret, a seasoned literary agent, advises her on the discipline of writing: “It’s important to write every day. You have to love it more than anything in the entire world.” Working closely with Salinger’s correspondence, Joanna learns the agency’s core duty is not promoting the author, but shielding him from public chaos: “The job of an agent is to open up opportunities for their clients, but with Salinger, the logic was reversed. We had to shield him from the outside world.”

Moved by the heartfelt fan letters she reads, Joanna begins replying to them personally, slowly discovering her own voice amid the routines of office life. When she faces crossroads between staying in a stable job and chasing her writing dream, she admits: “There’s just other things I want to do. And I’m afraid that if I don’t do them now, I never will.” Margaret offers gentle wisdom to ground her: “Try not to care too much about how people judge you. It can get overwhelming, but just do your job.”

The film carries a tender nostalgia for a pre‑digital literary era, and Salinger’s distant advice echoes throughout: “Write. Even if it’s just 15 minutes in the morning. Protect that sanctuary, okay?” More than a coming‑of‑age story, it is a thoughtful meditation on how literature shapes ordinary lives, and how young creators learn to balance external expectations with their inner creative truth. Understated and warm, it resonates deeply with anyone who has ever chased a life rooted in words and self‑discovery.

Paterson

 Paterson (2016) Full Story Summary

Directed by Jim Jarmusch, the film unfolds over one ordinary week in Paterson, New Jersey — both the name of the small industrial city and the protagonist, a quiet bus driver played by Adam Driver.

Basic Daily Routine

Paterson wakes every morning at 6:15 a.m. beside his wife Laura. He works the 23 bus route, observing passengers’ casual conversations and jotting down poetry in a secret notebook during breaks, lunch by the Great Falls of the Passaic River, and quiet evenings at home.

After work, he walks their English bulldog Marvin, stops at the same local bar for one beer, then returns to Laura. Their personalities contrast gently: Paterson lives in steady routine, while Laura is full of restless, creative ideas — baking cupcakes, redecorating their home in black-and-white themes, learning guitar, dreaming of opening a dessert business. They love each other deeply; Laura is his only reader, always urging him to publish his poems.

Small Events Through the Week

Little quiet incidents punctuate his repetitive days:

• A rapper performs poetry on his bus route.

• At the bar, a troubled actor pulls a toy gun in a dramatic breakup scene, which Paterson calmly defuses.

• Laura succeeds at a farmers’ market selling her homemade cupcakes, and the couple goes out to celebrate with a movie night.

The Crisis

That Saturday night, when they return home, they discover Marvin has torn apart Paterson’s only notebook — every poem he has written is destroyed. He never made copies. Paterson is devastated, but he does not rage or cry; he sits in silent grief, adrift without his private creative world.

The Ending & Theme

Heartbroken, he sits alone by the waterfall. A Japanese tourist, also a poet and admirer of William Carlos Williams’ epic poem Paterson, strikes up a conversation with him. The stranger talks about creativity, routine, and how poetry lives inside a person, not just on paper. He gifts Paterson a blank new notebook.

Paterson opens it and begins writing again, quietly reclaiming his inner life. The film closes as his daily rhythm resumes, emphasizing that art and meaning survive routine, loss, and the quiet magic of ordinary life.

Core Idea

The movie is a love letter to everyday creativity: poetry does not belong to famous writers, but to anyone who pauses to notice beauty in small, mundane moments. Routine is not empty — it is the soil where art grows.

At the Dragon Restaurant, there is only peace and food.

No Restaurante Dragão, só existe paz e comida.

There is no such thing as luck in war. That I am alive is already pure luck.

Without war, where would so much hatred come from?

Sem guerra, de onde viria tanto ódio?

Basic plot

Set in early‑2000s, war‑torn Middle East (modelled on Iraq after 2003 invasion).

Xu Fu, an ordinary Chinese chef, travels overseas purely to earn money and clear heavy family debts. He partners with a local manager to open Dragon Restaurant, a small Chinese eatery in a city abroad. Business starts promisingly, then full‑scale war erupts overnight.

Gunfire, explosions and chaos fill streets outside the restaurant walls. Inside, Xu Fu keeps his kitchen running. At first he only wants self‑preservation. Gradually he shelters war‑orphaned children, local civilians and displaced people of many nationalities. The restaurant turns into a fragile safe haven. He does not carry weapons or perform grand heroic deeds. His act of resistance is simply cooking meals and preserving small human dignity amid destruction.

Local residents, American soldiers, refugees and grieving locals cross paths at his dining tables. One key local character Zayd was originally gentle family man; war takes his wife and daughter, pushing him toward extremism. The film shows how war breaks ordinary people, rather than painting simple good‑evil labels.

Distinctive details

1. Strong visual contrast: Outside: ruins, gunshots, fear. Inside the restaurant: steam from woks, hot food, laughter and quiet conversations. Warm domestic life survives next to brutal war.

2. Food as core metaphor: “Eat well” is the recurring quiet motto. A decent hot meal becomes the symbol for safety, care and basic human dignity when everything collapses.

3. No big battle spectacles. Most scenes happen inside or near the restaurant. War is felt through distant blasts, refugee arrivals and changed human behaviour, not long combat sequences.

4. Anti‑hero protagonist: Xu Fu is selfish at the beginning. He fears danger, wants to run away. His goodness grows step‑by‑step under pressure; he is not a pre‑written perfect saviour figure.

Core themes & inspiration

1. Ordinary humanity in war

Heroism is not only soldiers with guns. Keeping people fed, protecting vulnerable children, maintaining small daily decency is also courage. Normal life itself becomes precious resistance against war’s destruction.

2. War creates victims on all sides

The story refuses simplistic black‑and‑white war narration. It shows civilians, local families and even occupying soldiers all get wounded by conflict. Extremism is often born from loss and trauma, not innate evil.

3. Peace lies in trivial daily happiness

The film conveys: true peace is not grand speeches. It means people can sit safely, share food and live ordinary quiet lives. “There is only peace and food” is one of its most‑quoted lines.

4. Neutral civilian perspective

Different from many Western war films centred on soldiers’ missions. This story observes conflict through the eyes of a neutral foreign civilian. It invites audiences to think: who tells war stories, and whose suffering gets seen on screen.

Selected memorable quotes

1. “There is only peace and food.”

2. “Eating well is the simplest form of blessing.”

3. “Without war, where would so much hatred come from?”

Ending Explanation ‑ Once Upon a Time in the Middle East

Why does Xu Fu survive?

1. Mercy from Zayd because of past kindness

Zayd was ordered to kill Xu Fu. The war had cost him his wife and daughter and filled him with hatred. Yet Xu Fu once treated him with humanity and gave him a hot meal at his lowest moment.

During the pursuit Zayd shot and wounded Xu Fu in the cheek. He had every chance to kill him, but chose to spare his life. Disillusioned by the absurdity of war, Zayd refused to execute a neutral civilian.

2. The gold‑tooth plot thread

Earlier, Xu Fu had saved a militant leader known as “the Principal”. As a token of gratitude the man gave Xu Fu a gold tooth. Xu Fu later sold it. The money became critical for bribing smugglers and arranging the escape bus.

3. Secret behind‑the‑scenes help from Zayd

It was not only money. The escape bus and intelligence about border routes relied on Zayd’s connections. Though he remained formally part of the armed group, he secretly paved the way for the children to flee the war zone.

Important note: Xu Fu’s survival is not mere plot armour. Every small act of kindness he showed in chaos earned him a slim chance to live. Still, he was severely injured and scarred; survival came at a heavy price.

How does his apprentice Saif escape with his life?

1. Ma Junsheng sacrifices himself to buy time

Xu Fu, Ma Junsheng and a group of war orphans including Saif were detained in a militant camp. Ma Junsheng risked everything. He used sprouted potatoes to make the children physically unwell, sabotaging the militants’ plan to exploit them. When discovered, he was shot dead. His death bought a window for escape.

2. Xu Fu sold all his possessions together with the gold tooth to hire smugglers. He boarded Saif and more than twenty orphans onto a desert bus heading for the border.

3. Their route was leaked and militants chased them down. Zayd stood against the pursuers and died in the confrontation. Troops from the neighbouring border state arrived on the scene. All the children including Saif were rescued and taken into safety, away from the armed group.

4. Badly wounded, Xu Fu survived and eventually returned alone to China. Saif grew up locally in the Middle‑East region.

The ambiguous final scene

Decades later, an ageing Xu Fu revisits the ruins of the old Dragon Restaurant. In the kitchen stands the back‑view of a cook holding a ladle, not a gun. It is the grown‑up Saif.

The camera never shows them face‑to‑face. Xu Fu simply weeps as he looks on. The director avoids sentimental reunion. The quiet message is: the orphan who could have been turned into a killer has become a cook and built a life.

Key points to bear in mind

‑ Xu Fu survived, but he did not bring Saif back to China. Saif stayed in the Middle‑East.

‑ Escape depended on multiple fragile factors: Ma Junsheng’s sacrifice, old debts of humanity and Zayd’s remaining conscience. In wartime this was sheer luck.

‑ Many characters perished: Ma Junsheng, Zayd and some of the children. The film rejects fairy‑tale endings where all good people live happily.

Travelling the world, what we see is not scenery, but people. Every life holds a story worth listening to.

Migration is no fairy‑tale. There are bright sides, yet also unseen loneliness and struggles.

Some regrets can never be mended. Yet those who have passed would not wish us to be trapped in self‑blame for a lifetime.

Friendship does not demand frequent meetings. Though separated by countless mountains and rivers, to keep one another in heart is already fate.

Many think leaving the old place will escape troubles. Troubles may not vanish; they merely take another form.

Welcome to the Dragon Restaurant

Film Review: Once Upon a Time in the Middle East

Welcome to the Dragon Restaurant

Director: Wen Muye

Lead Actor: Shen Teng

Genre: War‑drama with touches of dark comedy

Runtime: 140 minutes

Summary

Xu Fu, a Chinese chef from Northeast China, travels to a war‑torn Middle‑Eastern country hoping to earn quick money to pay off heavy debts. He opens a Chinese eatery called Dragon Restaurant, expecting only to make a living. When war suddenly erupts, his small restaurant unexpectedly becomes a shelter for displaced civilians and refugees. Not a born hero, Xu Fu is ordinary, timid and self‑preserving at heart. Yet amid gunfire, hunger and chaos, he chooses to protect vulnerable people through simple hot meals. The film contrasts the warmth of cooking against the cruelty of war, exploring humanity, compassion and the preciousness of peace.

Strengths

This anti‑war story is told from the perspective of a common man, without grand, larger‑than‑life heroes. Shen Teng delivers a powerful, restrained performance, moving far beyond his familiar comic roles. Human warmth is embodied in food: in times of chaos, a hot meal becomes dignity itself. The cinematography balances gritty wartime realism with tender human moments. Instead of loud speeches, the film conveys its anti‑war message quietly through everyday survival and small acts of kindness.

Weaknesses

Trailers misleadingly highlight comic scenes. This is not a comedy; most of the narrative carries heavy, sombre tones. Some supporting characters lack deep development, and certain plot beats follow predictable commercial‑film patterns. Graphic depictions of conflict and suffering make it emotionally taxing viewing. It offers no easy answers for real‑world war and injustice.

Reflection

War can burn down buildings and take countless lives, but human goodness may survive in small, ordinary gestures. Peace is not something to be taken for granted. True wealth lies not in money, but in the simple chance to live safely and share warm food with other people.

Conclusion

Highly recommended for viewers who appreciate realistic human‑centred dramas and anti‑war themes. It is not suitable for audiences seeking light‑hearted entertainment.

War‑fire can burn everything, yet the warmth of a meal may live on in people’s memory.

We only wish to eat a decent meal. Is that too much to ask?

Apenas queremos comer uma refeição decente. Será que é pedir demasiado?

Many civilizations have done the same thing, trading present time for a better future. Yet when that future finally arrives, little time remains to savour it.

Gloomy Sunday,1999)

1. 伊洛娜(女主角):餐廳美麗女侍,溫柔通透,同時擁有兩份真摯感情;

2. 拉西婁:猶太裔餐廳老闆,成熟包容、善良務實,深愛伊洛娜;

3. 安德拉許:憂鬱天才鋼琴師,為伊洛娜寫下傳世名曲《Gloomy Sunday(憂鬱星期天)》;

• 鋼琴師不願屈辱臣服於納粹,在餐廳彈完一曲《憂鬱星期天》後舉槍自盡;

1. 多元的愛情觀:打破「愛只能獨佔」的刻板印象,描寫不妒忌、互相體諒的三角情愫,探討愛的包容而非佔有;

2. 戰爭對普通人情義的摧殘:和平時期溫柔的人,在戰爭權力誘惑下變得自私殘酷;

3. 音樂承載悲傷與宿命:《憂鬱星期天》不只是情歌,是時代、失戀、戰亂所有痛苦的集合;

1. 喜歡甜寵、輕鬆戀愛喜劇的人:整體基調壓抑、悲涼,結局帶復仇的沉重感,沒有圓滿快樂結局;

2. 無法接受三角戀設定、認為愛情必須唯一的觀眾:電影核心就是三人和平共存的感情,容易覺得難以共情;

推薦觀看,尤其適合喜歡歐洲文藝片、二戰歷史、古典鋼琴、細膩人性故事的觀眾;

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane

1. 報館主管:見證凱恩白手起家、壟斷全美報業,用新聞操縱輿論;

2. 第一任妻子:總統之女,二人因價值觀徹底決裂;

3. 第二任情人蘇珊:凱恩強行培養她成為歌劇明星,強迫她活在自己的掌控之下,最終不堪束縛離開;

4. 監護人:童年時凱恩被送走,離開鄉下小木屋與母親;

1)深焦鏡頭:畫面前景、中景、背景同時清晰,一鏡同時承載多重劇情與情緒;

2)低角度仰拍:大量從地面往上拍凱恩,凸顯他看似龐大、高高在上的權威;

3)長鏡頭、疊化轉場、蒙太奇敘事:幾分鐘蒙太奇快速帶過凱恩婚姻數十年的破裂,後世所有電影都模仿此手法;

1. 節奏偏緩,沒有動作打鬥、刺激轉折,習慣商業爽片的觀眾一開始容易覺得沉悶;

2. 1941年黑白老片,畫面質感與現代大片差異大;

The Outsiders

 The Outsiders (1983 Movie)

Basic Info

• Director: Francis Ford Coppola

• Source: Adapted from S.E. Hinton’s classic young-adult novel (written when the author was only 16)

• Cast: C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Tom Cruise, Diane Lane

• Setting: 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

• Genre: Coming-of-age, teen drama, class conflict

Full Plot Summary

The town is sharply split into two rival teenage gangs divided by social class:

1. Greasers: Poor working-class teens from the east side, including 14-year-old sensitive narrator Ponyboy Curtis, his two elder brothers Darry and Sodapop, quiet best friend Johnny, reckless tough guy Dally, and their gang mates. Their parents died in a car crash, so Darry raises his two younger brothers alone.

2. Socs (Socials): Wealthy privileged teens from the west side, who drive nice cars and often attack Greasers for fun.

Key Storyline

1. Ponyboy meets Cherry, a kind Soc girl, at a drive-in cinema. They connect deeply; Cherry admits rich teens also suffer loneliness and emptiness behind their fancy lives.

2. Late one night, Ponyboy runs away from home after a fight with Darry. He and Johnny wander into a park, where they are ambushed by drunk Socs. One Soc tries to drown Ponyboy in a fountain. To save his friend, Johnny stabs and kills the Soc leader Bob.

3. Terrified, the two boys seek help from Dally, who sends them to hide in an abandoned rural church. They spend days reading poetry and dreaming of a world without gang hatred.

4. When they return to town to turn themselves in, they find the church on fire with young children trapped inside. Ponyboy and Johnny rush in to rescue the kids. Johnny is severely burned and injured.

5. A massive gang brawl (rumble) breaks out between Greasers and Socs; Greasers win the fight, but Johnny dies from his wounds soon after. His last words to Ponyboy are “Stay gold”—a plea to hold onto innocence and beauty amid cruelty.

6. Heartbroken over Johnny’s death, Dally loses control, robs a shop and gets shot dead by police.

7. In the end, Ponyboy writes down all their painful, tender experiences as a school essay, turning his grief into a story to preserve Johnny’s spirit.

Core Themes

1. Class division & shared humanity

Poverty and wealth create cruel stereotypes, yet every teenager—rich or poor—feels loneliness, fear and longing for connection. No group is purely good or evil.

2. Brotherhood & loyal friendship

The Greasers’ gang is not just a group of rebels; they are family. They protect, comfort and sacrifice for one another through hardship and loss.

3. Loss of innocence (“Stay gold”)

Childlike purity fades fast in a harsh, violent world. The film urges people to hold onto kindness, softness and hope instead of growing bitter and cruel.

4. Cycle of violence

Gang fights and revenge only bring endless pain and death; hatred solves nothing.

Why It Is Worth Watching

1. It is a landmark teen classic that honestly portrays adolescent pain, grief and loyalty without sugarcoating hardship.

2. The all-star young cast delivers raw, heartfelt performances, capturing fragile teenage emotion vividly.

3. Its central message of empathy across social gaps remains deeply relevant to modern audiences.

4. The line “Stay gold” has become one of the most iconic quotes in coming-of-age cinema.

Oxford Blues

 Oxford Blues (1984) — Full Movie Introduction (English)

Basic Information

• Release Year: 24 August 1984

• Genre: Romantic comedy, sports, coming-of-age drama

• Runtime: 97 minutes

• Director & Screenwriter: Robert Boris

• Lead Cast: Rob Lowe (Nick De Angelo), Amanda Pays (Lady Victoria), Ally Sheedy (Rona), Julian Sands (Colin)

• Background: A modern remake of the 1938 classic A Yank at Oxford, filmed on location at Oxford University.

Complete Plot Summary

Nick De Angelo is a cocky, street-smart American valet working at a Las Vegas hotel. He is obsessed with Lady Victoria Wingate, a wealthy, aristocratic British socialite he only sees in magazines.

1. Getting into Oxford by trickery

Nick wins a large sum of money through gambling. He pays a hacker to falsify his academic records to fraudulently gain admission to Oxford University—his only goal is to chase Victoria, not to study or earn a degree.

2. Culture clash and rowing team pressure

Once he arrives in Oxford, Nick’s brash American attitude clashes sharply with the stuffy, traditional elite British students. He learns Victoria is already dating Colin, a privileged, skilled rower from an upper-class family. To impress Victoria and compete with Colin, Nick joins the college’s prestigious rowing crew team.

3. Unexpected friendship and self-discovery

Nick meets Rona, a sharp, straightforward American girl studying at Oxford. She sees his shallow obsession with Victoria and calls out his immaturity. While training hard for rowing races, Nick slowly learns teamwork, humility and respect—lessons he never picked up in Las Vegas.

4. Love realization & climax race

Nick eventually realizes he only idealized Victoria for her status, while his genuine, equal connection is with Rona. The film’s climax is a critical inter-college rowing competition: Nick abandons his selfish pride to fight for his team, proving he has matured.

5. Ending

Nick lets go of his crush on Victoria. He chooses Rona, understanding true love is built on honesty and mutual understanding, not glamour or social rank.

Core Themes

1. Maturity over vanity

Nick travels to Oxford chasing a superficial fantasy of a wealthy noblewoman; the journey teaches him to value sincere character over status and appearance.

2. Teamwork beats individual arrogance

Rowing, a team sport, breaks down Nick’s self-centered, hustler mindset. He learns success relies on cooperation rather than solo charm.

3. Cross-cultural understanding

The film contrasts brash American individualism with old-world British aristocratic tradition, showing that empathy bridges cultural gaps.

4. Love based on authenticity

Infatuation with glamour fades; lasting affection grows from equal, unpretentious companionship.

Key Takeaways

This light 1980s Brat Pack film mixes romantic comedy and sports drama. Its biggest message: we grow not when we chase someone we idealize, but when we learn to respect ourselves and the people who see our true selves.

Brief Critical Note

Critics noted the plot is a light, nostalgic throwback to classic fish-out-of-water stories. It prioritizes charm and Oxford’s scenic campus over deep dramatic conflict, making it a gentle coming-of-age entertainment.
