This area is near Rua Horta e Costa and the red-market, the name is derived from the three lights in the center of the square, where many people hang around over there.
In past, it used to be the favorite area for the returned overseas Chinese to live or meet with old friends, as most of the food stores are owned by them.
According to my knowledge, this area is kind of market area with plenty of different shops: boutiques, banks, grocery stores, noodles shops, coffee shops, flower shop.... but it is also considered as a residential area.
From morning till early evening, it is busy all the time, with a lot of people and traffic. This is because the wet market is very close, and all kinds of small shops can be found here, from eating to dressing, or cooking.....Start from the morning, there are plenty of housewives go to this area to do food shopping and have breakfast.
As this place is a convenience place to go to different streets in this area, many people also pass by this area all the time, until night time.
Although it is not close to my house, whenever I have time, I like to go to walk and shop in the Rot Carlos Maia area, as I like to have a feeling of their daily life and I can do most of my shopping here (one-stop!!!!) - (I think this is the life style of the typical Macau people I would like to experience, I don't like to see so many chain stores, like the McDonalds, Watsons..... they are so standardised, and not personalised).
There are several noodle shops over there, I usually can have a bowl of hot fish soup noodles, coconut chicken noodles or the slice of pork meat noodles..... delicious for breakfast or for tea. Also, there are other kinds of noodles, like the curry beef and potato noodles, Vietnamese noodles......... lots of food that I can't find in the Central area, and also, the prices are considered a little bit cheaper than in Central. In addition, there are plenty of small coffee shops, bakeries, fruit, vegetable hawkers........
There is one noodle shop I like to eat. I eat inside the shop and have a view of the outside street - seeing how the hawkers sell the beautiful flowers, watching how the people sell or shop on the streets, how the people enjoying their time on shopping or meeting friends...... This is the life of Macau people.......... I cannot enjoy this kind of scenery in the central area.
