Newly crowned Miss Hong Kong faces an onslaught of criticism from netizens, but she isn't the first unpopular beauty queen in this city

Miss Hong Kong 2010 Toby Chan has been compared to veteran actress Yu Mo.
Miss Hong Kong 2010 second runner up Lisa Ch'ng has been compared to Brandon Chow. This year's Miss Hong Kong pageant has been fraught with more controversy than usual. Netizens are crying foul play by winner Toby Chan and second runner-up Lisa Ch'ng, both of whom have been linked to sponsors and other influential names.
Tabloids have been buzzing with a possible romance blossoming between Toby Chan and Jacky Wong, heir to travel agency Hong Thai, a major sponsor of the Miss Hong Kong pageant. Meanwhile, Lisa Ch'ng comes from Malaysian high society and netizens accused her rich, powerful family of buying her bronze crown.
But really, none of these things would matter if the girls looked better. People are just upset because they think these girls are not gorgeous. In fact, there is a Facebook group for "Hong Kong porkchop Toby Chan" to express discontent with the new beauty queen (in Cantonese slang, "porkchop" refers to an ugly girl).
In response to the unsavory adjective, Chan said the label doesn't bother her because she thinks pigs are rather cute.
And what about being compared to one of TVB's oldest actresses Yu Mo? Chan says she watches Yu's TV performances and considers her "not a negative character" and thus, again, is not bothered.
But Chan and Ch'ng are not the first Miss Hong Kong winners to get slapped with the ugly stamp. Bloggers have listed the least attractive Miss Hong Kongs throughout the four decade history of the pageant. It may be hard to believe that the ladies below share a title with some of Hong Kong's greatest beauty queens, such as Cherie Chung, Maggie Cheung and Michelle Reis, who were all former Miss Hong Kongs.
