My colleague found an apartment through an agent last year, at that time, he paid 1 month's rent for the commission. Through the agent, a contract has been established with the landlord.
After a year's time, the landlord is going to increase the rent, at the same time, the agent also called and reminded my colleague that he needed to pay half month's rent for commission.
For me, I think it is totally unacceptable, as the commission was for the first time handling of the contract, why did the agent require the occupant to pay the extra commission in the following years.
The company said that it is the general practice in the industry.
Then, in my opinion, there is problem in the practice, as it is not fair to the consumer.
At last, my colleague contact the landlord directly, and explained the information he got from the agent - the landlord also realised that it was not correct to pay the commission for the coming years, as he had paid so for the first time. Therefore, they agreed to finish the amendment without the agent.
At the end, we had a bad impression of the property agent.
