Animals at home

My colleague told me that she has several dogs at home, and it seems that they are her friends and they  occupy most of her time after work.

I don't have any pets at home now but it reminds me that when I was small, I did have experience of having different kinds of animals at home (not at a time though , this was the strategy of my brother, otherwise parents would stop it), most of the them were bought home by my elder brother.

He liked dogs, and he bought home a small dog and begged for parents to let it stay. I was scarred of dog, but it was small and cute, we did have happy time with the small dog.  Unfortunately, one day it got hurt by a car and it died, we were very sad and we were not allowed to take other dog home.

Once my father also bought home a parrot - it was pretty and it sang all the time, we taught it how to speak, and it also learned fast, we were very proud and the kids in our neighbourhood also admired us very much.  I treated the parrot very nice, however, one day when I was back home after school, it was stolen.

Mother also liked to have a cat at home, as she said that it could keep the rats away - I didn't like it, but I had to accept the fact.

My brother was an active boy, he was clever and liked to explore many things, especially the nature. When he was young he saved the pocket money as much as possible, and he bought home all kinds of animals - silkworms, golden fishes, frogs, rabbits, he would go out to the fields to catch the butterflies, dragonflies, spiders......... He also liked reading very much, I was influenced by his loved of books too.

Looking back to those old days, I was scarred of these animals guests in the house - I still remember the growing of frogs!!  I was glad that I could explore myself and learn their growing.

It was really a good experience and I am pretty sure that nowadays children miss the chance to have that kind of fun and experience - they just stay with their computer all the time, it is a pity!
