She rests in bed; the silent night drags slow, long, steep.

The Mountain Goddess’ tryst was naught but fleeting dream;

The maiden dwells alone, no sweetheart by her side to seem.

World’s storms regard not how frail the water-caltrop shoots bend;

Who breathed sweet scent to osmanthus leaves beneath moon-dew’s soft blend?

I know full well fond yearning yields no gain, no mild release;

Yet I abide this grief—my sober, wistful, gentle peace of unease.
