Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) Acting Director Lao Lan Wa announced yesterday that Macau will host its first-ever Specialised World  Stamp Exhibition which begins today.

Lao made the remarks at the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo alongside Prakob Chirakiti, president of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP), Huo Hui Xiao, general director of the Macau Philatelic Association, and Abdulla Khoory, director of the FIP. Both FIP representatives are serving as consultants for the exhibition.

According to Lao, the exhibition is not only a milestone in Macau’s philatelic history but also an important window through which to showcase the city’s vitality and unique character to the world – a place where Chinese culture is the mainstream yet coexists harmoniously with diverse cultures. Lao noted that the exhibition features around 1,500 frames of “precious competitive philatelic exhibits”, alongside more than 40 sales booths from postal administrations and  stamp dealers from around the globe.

Lao added that the event features a “Rare Stamp Zone” displaying items from the collection of the China National  Postage Stamp Museum. It also includes the “Exhibition of Original Macau Stamp Archives”, which showcases the original design files and hand-drawn sketches of several classic Macau stamp issues. This zone aims to offer the public a glimpse into the creative inspiration and artistic journeys of the designers behind each stamp, Lao said, adding that the exhibition will run for six days, ending next Wednesday.

Chirakiti said in a speech that the exhibition marks the very first time an FIP-patronised World Stamp Exhibition is being hosted by Macau since the founding of the Federation exactly a century ago in France in 1926. He expressed his strong belief that the exhibition will be a “historic success”.

Chirakiti also noted that the organising committee is hosting the 78th FIP Congress in Macau, anchoring a global celebration of the FIP Centenary.

In his speech, Khoory said that the exhibition is far more than a display of rare stamps and postal history, adding that it is a celebration of human heritage, cultural diversity, and the power of stamps to tell the stories of nations and connect people across borders. He added that through the exhibition, Macau once again demonstrates its unique role as a bridge between cultures and a meeting place where tradition and modernity coexist.

Meanwhile, Huo said in his address that the Macao 2026 Specialized World Stamp Exhibition is the largest event organised by his association since its founding in 1980. Huo said he believes that once the exhibition concludes, philatelic activities in Macau will enter a completely new phase of development.
