Received the notice from Dream Corp - this year's camp is coming soon.
It makes me remember my 2006 vacation - when I was searching over Internet to find out what I was going to do, I was also thinking to join some volunteer program, to make my annual vacation more meaningful. I found out Dream Corps - they visited the remote Chinese villages, they taught English and some other courses and helped the teachers to set up libraries.
Unfortunately, the application date was passed. It was almost end of April. Still, I sent my mail to make the contact. After exchanging e-mails, I learned that most of them were college students, only I was the one who was working in the society.
Nevertheless, they welcomed my application, and I also made the travel arrangement over the phone with them.
Finally, while all of the participants flied from North America, I flied from Macau to Beijing to join the activities in 2006, spending about 4 weeks' time (my one year's vacation time) in China. I found out that it was quite a good experience of learning.
I was not giving, but receiving a lot.
It is valuable. I encourage people who want to do something meaningful for their vacation to join.
Dream Corps' 2010 summer volunteer program is open for application! The dates for this year's program are May 23 - June 25.
