Aug 1 in Macau

August 1 2011 will be a very special date in Macau  as there will be a big reform for the public transportation service here, three public transportation companies (one is new) will run different routes of the buses, that means, the majority of the routes run by the existing company will no longer run by it, under this condition, the citizens may be quite confused of the different color of the buses,  and some how, definitely it will affect our daily life.

I even don't know what is going to change, as they didn't do much ( may be not enough) to make the citizens to familiar, I just wonder why they didn't make it a soft landing.

My father likes to take buses (for senior citizens each trip is only 0.30 patacas), and I warned him it is better to be careful when taking the bus, otherwise, if the bus goes to a place that it is not quite familiar, it will be very troublesome.

I got a good answer from him - don't worry, just get a taxi - it is true, if you have money, nothing is a problem.

However, getting a taxi is not easy in Macau, as every day I can see a long queue of people waiting for the taxi in San Ma Lou.

It takes many years to understand these eight statements

Read this article over Internet, I really think they are very meaningful statements, thus, I try to translate into English (it is only a roughly translation)-

How many years for you to understand the following eight statements.

1. If you love someone, please make yourself completely in love with him/her. If you give up something, make sure it is 100% doing so. Waiting itself is a mistake, don't give up easily if it is not worth it, and don't be stubborn to keep on holding it if it is not worth to hold it forever.

2. Think widely, then, the chance to get hurt will be slimmer. If a person doesn't care on hurting you, he/she would not care whether you cry. Therefore, no need to cry anymore, wash your face, brush your teeth, do whatever you want...

3. For many kinds of things, we experience, then we understand, e.g. love - we regret that we miss it, then, we know that we need not to have so many unnecessary principles or rules....

4. Fall is a cruel season, no matter whether the fruits are ripen or not, all of them should be collected. All will be gone during the transition from fall to winter, in such a quick moment, the only thing still alive in my mind, like the stream in the hill side, is my memory...

5. Treasure the happiness in hand, don't wait until you lose it, may be, in your life, there is only one person who loves you so deeply...

6. Life is like a train, there are so many different kinds of people coming in and going out in the train, passing by you. You may meet many people by chances, in fate, but when the train stops, there are always people getting in or out, when you walk out to greet them, and turn back, you can only remember that, there is only a path back to your home....

7. For some people, you be with them for your whole life, but may be you overlook them for the whole life. Some people you meet them once, but they influence your whole life. Some people are eagerly to make you happy, but are turned down by you. Some people only make you  a very short sweet moment, but occupy your heart wholly. Some people are willing to wait for you for n years, but get rejected for n year....

8. Don't borrow many things from your friends, because you may never get the chance to return them... The experiences will never come back again, the only thing you own is memory. Therefore, dear friends, treasure all you have in your life!

HK has finest civil service- 31/7/2011

Chief Executive Donald Tsang says Hong Kong has the finest civil service and the Government will continue to deliver what Hong Kong people need in future days, in particular sustaining prosperity and protecting its own value system.

Speaking to the media after attending a leadership conference today, Mr Tsang said the Government must continue to nurture young civil servants by devoting time to their training.

“You have heard many national leaders have praised their [civil servants’] achievement and their ability in the past. I am quite confident they are going to deliver what Hong Kong people needs in the future days, in particular sustaining prosperity and protecting our own value system,” he said.

When addressing the forum earlier, Mr Tsang said integrity and passion are two essential elements in a politician.
“The leadership of a politician is founded on the personal qualities he possesses and projects by his actions and words. Integrity comes first. You need the highest moral and ethical standards because without them you will never be able to build trust with the community that you lead and serve,” he said.

“Next comes passion – passion for the people of Hong Kong… In the broader context, passion for our country, or patriotism, is just as important for a leader of Hong Kong.”

He said leadership also requires vision – a vision that is relevant to the people, relevant to the time, and possible to achieve, and to ensure the vision – policies and planning for the longer term – are clearly explained and articulated to the people.

“To use an often quoted phrase: You can’t just talk the talk; you have to walk the walk. If you believe in your vision, you need to fight the good fight because, if you don’t, that will ultimately erode your credibility,” he said.

“You also need to be diligent in listening to people’s views. It’s not easy or pleasant to change your plans or approach because, of course, you already believe it has been well thought through! But in my experience, no plan is perfect and often you can improve it by taking on board some new ideas or perspectives; or by acknowledging that community priorities have changed or moved on.”

Mr Tsang said he has a dedicated group of Principal Officials supported by a political cadre as his immediate team, and has the support and input of one of the finest civil services in the world, which works hand-in-hand with the political team to undertake policy and administrative planning, and to see through the implementation of the Government's policies and decisions.

“All along the chain of command there are teams of people attending to the details of the daily business of government. And every team, in every division, of every department is important for the smooth and efficient running of Hong Kong,” he said.

Thai Dinner in Lan Fa

There are a number of Thai Restaurants,
and some of them are located in the very near-by area,
which is very closed to my home.

Last night,
after the final exam of my course,
was very hungry,
and went to this restaurant for take my late dinner.

There was only a table of customers eating there,
it was quiet for Friday night,
I guessed,

The decoration of the restaurant is in Thai style,
very special in this area.
The menu comes with the photos,
which are very attractive,
the prices are so so,
plus 10% servcie charge.

I ordered the food immediately:
baked shrimps with glass noodles,
pineapple fired rice,
fried vegetables,
young coconut.

The vegetables came first,
then the pineapple fired rice,
the first two dishes were ok,
the last was the baked shrimps with glass noodles (the most expensive dish),
I could not see any shrimps,
but the vermicelli in brown sauce was full of the little hot pot,
later noticed it was at the bottom part,
there was only 2 tiny shrimps,
with the head in deep dark color - signs of stale.

At the same time,
when I almost finished the rice,
inside the rice,
there was a tiny shrimp -
the only one in the pineapple fried rice,
it was in pale white color,
no taste at all.
kind of very disappointed,
as the price didn't match the quality and quantity of the dish in this resaurant,
plus, I didn't see any customer service.

Because the restaurant closes at 11,
thus I need to rush to finish my food.

When I left the restaurant,
I could conclude that why on Friday night,
there were not many customers inside.

That also explained the food was not fresh -
and actually this is the most important thing for the restaurant.

Will I come back again,
I have a doubt.

China destined to be a strong country without hegemony, Fu Ying

By People's Daily Online

http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90001/90780/91342/6650662.html

At the invitation of Oxford Union, Fu Ying, Chinese ambassador to UK, delivered a speech at Oxford University on the subject of whether China is a power on April 29, 2009. It is the first time a Chinese official has addressed the Union in 186 years.

While addressing the Union officers and members, ambassador Fu said that China, a country with 1.3 billion, smart, hard working and happy people is destined to be a strong country in the world. But China will not become hegemonic.

Ambassador Fu noted that the splendid Beijing Olympics are seen as marking China’s ascendance into a world power status. An international consensus is emerging that China is a world power. There is therefore a lot of scrutiny about the rights and wrongs in China and what China should and should not do. China is moving from the margin to the center of the world politics.

There are also some concerns about what kind of power China will become and whether China is going to impose its will upon others. A survey shows that some 80 percent of Chinese disagree that China has already achieved the status of a global power.

Ambassador Fu said that such a conclusion was based on the fact that China was both "big and small, strong and weak" summarized by late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, and it still remains true of today's China.

People outside China tend to see the big and strong aspects of China, while inside China, people are more aware of its weakness and challenges. Ambassador Fu cited statistics to illustration the two dimensions of China: China's GDP ascended to third place in the world in 2008, however, in per capita terms, UK's level is 15 times higher than China's; in terms of trade China is the third largest in the world while UK is No.8. However, UK services trade is No.2 in the world and China is just developing the services sector; with regard to foreign currency reserves, China has 30 times that of UK. But London is a global financial center with about 550 foreign banks and 170 international securities firms. Among the 500 companies in Europe, 100 set their headquarters in London; the UK is in a post industrial society and urban residents take up 90 percent of the population, while China is still in the early phase of industrialization and urbanization.

Ambassador Fu quoted premier Wen's remark that any small problem in China can grow into a huge one if multiplied by 1.3 billion, while a big achievement can become too tiny to notice once divided by that number. Chinese people hope to develop China into a country with prosperity, democracy and rule of law, and a country that works for peace and cooperation in the world.

Ambassador Fu also mentioned earth-shaking changes that have taken place since the founding of the PRC 60 years ago. China's pursuit of prosperity is enabling everyone to have a roof over the head, every child in school, the sick having access to medical care and the elderly taken care of. China has come this far not through war, but through hard work by its vast number of people and through fair trading with the world. The source of the strength of China is in its economy.

Meanwhile she also acknowledged that the prosperity is not evenly shared and there is still poverty in the countryside. China is confident that the trend of prosperity is going to continue and the people will be better off with each passing year.

As for democratic reform in China, ambassador Fu said she was happy with the country's steady progress in democratic decision making and the rule of law after having seen the anarchy of the Cultural Revolution in the 60s and the progress of reform. Take the role of the National People's Congress for example; it has assumed a very important role in China's political life. President Hu Jintao used the term democracy about 60 times because he wanted to emphasize its importance and was calling for greater effort to develop democracy in the Party and the government.

In diplomatic fields, ambassador Fu drew her personal involvement in the six-party talks in which China's role was to mediate between DPRK and the US. Ambassador Fu said that China could not support the DPRK going nuclear because it was not in the interest of peace in the region; and China did not agree with the US for regime change through military means, and China would only take part in a peace process.

Finally, Ambassador Fu said that she was confident that the parties would come back to the negotiating table. China's diplomatic objective is to promote peace and cooperation in the world, in which China can continue to prosper and its people can achieve a better life.

Song - Time in the Bottle

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Till Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

Hot Sunday afternoon,
I know I need to go through my study notes to prepare for the Friday exam,
as will be busy for all the evenings during the week,
however,
when I am sitting in front of the computer,
I start to use my economic mind to rationalise the time I should use for this subject,
I have decided to minimize the time on the preparation,
the time more than that is useless,
it is a non-significant course which I would not use in my job nor life,
for the beautiful hot Sunday,
I should make myself doing something else.

Remember one of my professors told me that,
we have a lot of choices in our life,
we should know how to get the better one!!!

不過是wrong time, wrong place,

Watched this in youtube, I think this is very meaningful!!

Noodles Month

Since registered for a software course during this month,
besides of working about 40 hours per week,
I need to take this course 9 hours per week,
and in addition of taking regular dancing lessons for 6 hours per week,
I am so occupied every day.

I even don't have chance to have my regular dinner...
after class,
always so tired and look for food to fill my stomach,
after 23 days have passed for July,
I realise that I have all kinds of noodles in different kinds of noodles shops -
Cantonese Noodles,
Taiwanese Noodles,
Beijing Noodles,
Hanyu Noodles,
........
and many kinds I still can put them on my list to go,
I am so lucky,
I can find all kinds of different noodles to eat in Macau,
so easily,
wonderful noodles month!

Turned OLD

My father lives alone,
and I try to have meals with him whenever I have time.
Still, being a daughter,
I know I need to do more.

The other day,
he told me he accidentally pressed the "Elderly Safe Bell" system when he was sleeping at mid-night,
the on-duty officer immediately talked with him over the system,
and made sure he was OK.
I only knew that until lunch time of next day.

Last Tuesday,
he had a dentist appointment in the government hospital.
Though he called the Taxi and sent him to the hospital,
however,
under the construction work of certain areas of the hospital,
he had difficulties to locate the dentist area,
a place where he has visited for many times,
thus, he was lost and did not know where to go,
I can imagine the scenery,
an old man lost in a hospital!!
Finally,
a fireman realised that and guided him to the correct place.

He told me after he came home,
I had nothing to say about that,
but I just want to thank to the people who helped my father,
appreciate a lot their kindness,
and I wish there are more people would like to help people in need.

I always remember this old saying,

"Honour the aged of other family as we honour our own".

Supermarket Shopping

Recently the big supermarkets near my father's house simultaneously offer fresh food section,
including fresh meat, all kinds of vegetables and fruits,
this is a very good news for me,
because I don't need to fix my time to go to wet-market to do groceries shopping.
I can have one stop and  finish the shopping for all the things I want,
I can use my credit card to pay for the food,
and I can buy the food at night time if I need,
however,
after trying to change my shopping habit,
I realise that the quality of the food is only so so,
e.g. I have to drink non-sweet orange juice,

because the oranges look nice,
but taste very sour.

Hope that they can improve the purchasing policy and packaging policy
they should sell nice food,
but not disguise bad food in a good package,
this is not honest at all.
In wet market,
with a little bit of time,
people can compare ,choose and ask how the food is,
for maintaining loyalty customers,
wet market vendors would tell the truth.

I think the big supermarket should have a very straight selection policy,
as for consumers would like to shop in the supermarket,
we are looking for convenience and quality,
otherwise,
we would go back to the traditional wet market.

Thai Delicious (Very Delicious)

E recommended this eating place to me long time ago,
and I also knew this place,
as I always passed by this shop when I was taking dancing class in the Center near Toi San area,
there are always a lot of customers.

Last weekend first time ate in this place,
the shop was not big,
but there were a lot of tables and customers,
the prices were reasonable,
but the waiter and waitress speak little Chinese,
thus, they take order with the numbering system,
customers write down the dishes' numbers on the paper,
then,
the waiter/waitress pass the order to the kitchen,
the kitchen chefs make the food according to the number.

There are a lot of dishes for selection,
but since I didn't want to take so much spicy food,
thus, ordered some very general thai dishes,
noodles, meat, vegetables,
they were quite good,
also with the fresh coconut juice,
the dinner was great,
except each table needed to wait for the dishes,
the food  didn't come out at the same time,
rather than,
I realised that,
they made the dishes according to the enough number of certain dishes -
if 3 tables order the same vegetables,
3 plates of vegetables will come out the same time.

One more thing,
After the dinner,
during the night time,
I knew the delicious food has a lot of MSG !!

http://www.tungfongproperties.com/kn.htm

Goodbye Again, Cambridge

My favorite poem, I like the last four sentences the most.

正如我輕輕的來;

是夕陽中的新娘;

油油地在水底招搖;

不是清泉,是天上虹;

向青草更青處漫溯;

悄悄是別離的笙簫;

正如我悄悄的來;

Goodbye Again, Cambridge

Very quietly I take my leave

As quietly as I came here;

Quietly I wave good-bye

To the rosy clouds in the western sky.

The golden willows by the riverside

Are young brides in the setting sun;

Their reflections on the shimmering waves

Always linger in the depth of my heart.

The floatingheart growing in the sludge

Sways leisurely under the water;

In the gentle waves of Cambridge

I would be a water plant!

That pool under the shade of elm trees

Holds not water but the rainbow from the sky;

Shattered to pieces among the duckweeds

Is the sediment of a rainbow-like dream.

To seek a dream? Just to pole a boat upstream

To where the green grass is more verdant;

Or to have the boat fully loaded with starlight

And sing aloud in the splendour of starlight.

But I cannot sing aloud

Quietness is my farewell music;

Even summer insects keep silence for me

Silent is Cambridge tonight!

Very quietly I take my leave

As quietly as I came here;

Gently I flick my sleeves

Not even a wisp of cloud will I bring away

Read newspaper today, and the writer talked about this poem.
Actually this is one of my favorite poems,
it was so beautifully written,
and I really like it very much!!

你有你的,我有我的,方向;

Grosvener Momordica fruit﹞

http://www.islt.com.hk/foodinfluohanguo.html

  取羅漢果一個壓碎外皮,將種子分開;

  在煲中放入2.2公升水,放下壓碎的羅漢果一個;

  用中火煲三十分鐘﹝以水滾後計算﹞,關火後,焗多三十分鐘;

Beautiful Algarve

Friday morning,
heard a program from Macau Radio which introduced Algarve,
it mentioned Algarve is a lovely place in South of Portugal,
it is very famous for its beautiful beaches and places for vacation.

The name of Algarve is not new to me,
I knew it from my Portuguese lessons,
especially when I studied for the exams,
on the history and the geography of Portugal,
and I used to think that the Portuguese teachers missed their home,
thus they said that Algarve was a beautiful place.

This time,
I was attracted by the recommendation,
thus searched over Internet,
and the places are really nice,
it should be a great place for relaxing,
I should go  there one day to witness whether it is beautiful or not!

The 10 Most Important Things to Simplify in Your Life

by joshua becker

great post: extracted from the following site:
http://www.becomingminimalist.com/2010/03/16/the-10-most-important-things-to-simplify-in-your-life/

1.Your Possessions - consider Simplify.

2.Your Time Commitments –When possible, release yourself from the time commitments that are not in line with your greatest values.

3.Your Goals – Make a list of the things that you want to accomplish in your life and choose the two most important. When you finish one, add another from your list.

4.Your Negative Thoughts – Most negative emotions are completely useless Forgive past hurts and replace negative thoughts with positive ones.

5.Your Debt –  Sacrifice luxury today to enjoy freedom tomorrow.

6.Your Words – Use fewer words. Keep your speech plain and honest. Mean what you say. Avoid gossip.

7.Your Artificial Ingredients – Avoid trans fats, refined grain (white bread), high-fructose corn syrup, and too much sodium. \Also, reduce your consumption of over-the-counter medicine

8.Your Screen Time – Focusing your attention on television, movies, video games, and technology affects your life more than you think. The only way to fully appreciate its influence in your life is to turn them off.

9.Your Connections to the World - Relationships with others are good, but constant streams of distraction are bad. Learn when to power off the blackberry, log off facebook, or not read a text. Focus on the important, not the urgent.

10.Your Multi-Tasking -Handle one task at a time. Do it well. And when it is complete, move to the next.

Lunch meeting with ex-coworkers

Lunch with my ex-coworkers in Tak Heng Sea Food Restaurant,
three of them have left my present company and changed work place in different time,
and now all of them meet and work in the other company,
the world is so small.

Before, 4 of us worked in the same place,
and we never got the chance to Yam Cha,
after they left,
and now I am the only one staying in the present company,
and we treasure our good old time.

Topics have been focused on their work-place,
rather than mine,
the time was a little bit short,
and kind of rush,
but enjoyed the meeting with them!!
