Zhang pledges full support to Macau's development


The Chairman of the National People Congress has arrived in Macau today for a three-day visit with a pledge to reinforce Beijing's unyielding support to the city.

Zhang Dejiang said he's in the SAR's to experience and inspect city's robust development.

With children waving flowers and a red banner welcoming his arrival, China's number three official Zhang Dejiang has arrived Macau for a three-day visit.

The Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee was greeted by Chief Executive Chui Sai On and former Macau leader Edmund Ho.

The top state leader then spent five minutes speaking to the public.

Zhang, who's in charge of Hong Kong and Macau affairs, says Macau has made "brilliant achievements" since the handover in 1999.

To sum up his trip, the Chinese leader pledges to inspect and experience Macau.

"As everybody knows that my job is to oversee Hong Kong and Macau affairs. I've been paying close attention to Macau's social and economic changes all these years but seeing is believing. My purpose of this trip is to see more, listen more and walk around more as well as to witness Macau's accomplishments since its handover back to the mainland".

This is Zhang's second time visiting Macau as he last came for the Pan-Pearl River Delta Cooperation and Development Forum in 2004, while head of the Communist Party in Guangdong.



Zhang is also following up on the city's progress to implementing Beijing's policy goals.

"I'm here to offer encouragement to you all. It's pivotal at this stage to work together and push forward another chapter of Macau's social and economic development. My visit to Macau this time has once again shown that Beijing will continue to give our unshakable support to the SAR so we must all work towards the goal to building Macau a better place". The high-ranking leader is visiting Macau on the invitation of Chief Executive Chui Sai-on

In the coming two days, Zhang is scheduled to attend seminars and inspect various industries.
He is also expected to make an unprecedented visit to the loc
