2005 Dream Vacation Journal - 5

2nd June 2005
Little Kids

In the morning, we first work a little bit planning for our classes. We also take time to have a walk in the village: the houses are very old, with a lot of sands everywhere, and the village is quiet, for children go to school; adults go to work in the paddy field, except the elders and the women with the younger kids stay at home, everywhere is wheat grass, we can also see ducks, chickens, goat, cows…..

In the primary school building, we cannot meet the headmaster for she is not in the office. (Her family live in the school and her husband is the headmaster of the high school) A number of kids are very excited to see us, while the other students are having lessons in the classroom. Later on we know that they are from the kindergarten, but the classes are cancelled.

Most of them were in 6 years old, all of them are with lovely smiling faces, holding hands with their buddies.

We take the chance to play games with them, and they are so excited, as they make a lot of noise to disturb the other classes, we lead them to enter into an empty classroom.

We teach them to sing and play, we also offer candies to them, and they are so satisfied, especially when they see their happy faces from the screen of the digital camera, they are quite energized, however they are so hyper that it is out of our control. Also, for the boys, they can always get into flights easily.

For lunch , we have vegetarian good, very healthy meal. After lunch, I take the time to wash my clothes, while others go to take a nap, as most Chinese people do in main land china. Secretary C sees me washing my clothes, and offers to help, as he says that we, people from the city, do not know how to wash clothes. I smile and thank for his kindness.

The house of village head is big and simple, but there are many electric appliances like we have in city: air-conditioning, computer, TV, telephone, mobile phone, washing-machine, and it is heard that he is the richest man in the village.

However, what kind of life is rich, I think it is difficult to say. Busy city life and village life are different, in certain sense, which is poor and which is rich, it is hard to say. People himself should decide.

Afternoon, we have English lessons at 4PM, I teach the P6, and basically I revise the vocabularies and teach them how to do greetings in English.

After the class, I chat with the students, and I also meet the headmaster. She is very kind and we talk a little bit.

At nine o click, the other buddies offer computer classes to the farmers, the day is long, we can’t go to bed until 12, as we have to wait for the bathroom to clean up.
